Unlike anodizing, the Passivation process is designed to remove foreign metals from the surface of stainless and corrosion resistant steels. Passivation does not alter the appearance of the base metal but purifies the metal surface, therefore improving its corrosion resistance. Examples of products that are candidates for Passivation include stainless steel commercial kitchen utensils, appliances and barbeques, as well as clean room products and items for the airline industry.
